Community program for those with schizophrenia
People with schizophrenia who participated in a six-month community-based pilot study in the US had statistically significant improvements in their ability to communicate and interact within their social network.
The Advancing Standards of Care for People with Schizophrenia program was administered at 10 community behavioural health organisations across the US.
The program included a group curriculum aimed at helping patients understand and self-manage their condition, as well as a functional assessment tool to track independence in carrying out everyday tasks.
The overall attrition rate was 48%, which was consistent with community-based treatment protocols.
