MANY patients have difficulty applying creams to their back, whether it be a steroid cream, menthol or even sunscreen. Older patients who live alone are as likely to trigger a rotator cuff tear as reach the region between their shoulder blades.
Dr Simon Pilbrow of Rosebud, Vic, suggests they smear the cream thickly on a smooth, easy-to-clean surface. A brass doorknob or the hemispheric end of a soup ladle is ideal. Rub on the cream and simply clean off the residue.
