Getting to the bottom of this rash

AT TIMES it is difficult to believe the role ultraviolet light plays in skin aging.

This man was sent along for diagnosis of a generalised red rash. In point of fact, it was all just solar damage. The only area of his body not damaged was his buttock skin, which had always been covered. Examples like this serve to emphasise the importance of sun protection in preserving good-looking skin. Sunscreens are never enough and physical protection from clothing is always better. We do need some sun exposure to generate adequate levels of vitamin D in the body, but that can be easily achieved by intermittently exposing the forearm skin to sunlight.
