THE US government launched a National Alzheimer’s Plan last month with the goal of finding effective ways to prevent and treat the devastating effects of dementia by 2025.

The initiatives include funding for Alzheimer’s research projects, one of which is an insulin nasal spray for treating the disease. Another is a prevention trial in people who are at the highest risk for Alzheimer’s disease.

There will be additional funding towards improving high-quality training for physicians, alongside a website that will help caregivers and patients, as well as a media campaign to draw attention to the website.

The plan aims to: prevent and treat Alzheimer’s disease by 2025, optimise care quality and efficiency, expand support for people with Alzheimer’s and their families, enhance public awareness and track progress and drive improvement.
