SENIOR doctors have continued their campaign to retain a Senior Active registration category, staging a meeting in Sydney recently to protest the removal of 1800 doctors from Occasional Practice registration next year.

Cheaper fees for senior GPs could penalise others

THE Medical Board of Australia (MBA) has warned that any proposal offering cheaper registration for senior doctors could raise fees for all other medical practitioners. An MBA spokeswoman said a reduction in fees for senior doctors, as outlined in a proposal from the Australian Doctors’ Fund (ADF) for a new Senior Active registration category, would have “implications for the fees paid by the rest of the profession”. A re-analysis of the US JUPITER trial, including 6801 women aged 60 years and older with raised CRP and low LDL-C, has found 20 mg per day of rosuvastatin (Crestor) led to similar relative risk reductions in CVD rates in asymptomatic women (by 46%) and men (by 42 per cent).  When the results were synthesised with a meta-analysis of five trials for statin use in 20,147 women for primary prevention, statin therapy showed a one-third ...
