Warning: Sexed-up coffee a potent brew

AUSTRALIA’S food regulator today warned instant coffee products being sold under the name Sexpresso or Rock Hard contain analogues of sildenafil (Viagra). The products being sold in sex shops and on the Internet claim to enhance sexual performance, a spokesperson for Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) said. State and territory agencies were currently investigating the products, and it was not known what the potential side-effects of taking them might be. “These analogues, like any drugs, can interact with prescription medicines and may be dangerous, particularly for people with certain health conditions,” FSANZ said. ‘Herbal’ erectile tablets a heart risk, TGA warns

A SAFETY warning has been issued after a “100% herbal” erectile dysfunction treatment sold over the Internet was found to contain sildenafil. The Natural Vigra VIAGRA tablets may pose a health risk in men with a history of cardiovascular disease, the TGA has warned. Experts issue warning: Keep Viagra off supermarket shelves

UK moves allowing patients to purchase the PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil (Viagra) in supermarket pharmacies without consulting a doctor should not be adopted in Australia, an expert says. Patients will be required to complete a questionnaire, have their blood pressure and cholesterol checked and be screened for diabetes under a special licence known as ‘patient group direction’. Professor Rob McLachlan, director of Andrology Australia, said similar practices would not be endorsed in Australia.  “Erectile dysfunction is often ...

The service will be available to men aged 40 to 65, who will be charged £52 ($86) for a consultation and eight tablets. Patients will be required to complete a questionnaire and tests for blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol. The health watchdog said allowing Viagra to be ...

Health dangers of fake erectile dysfunction drugs identified

MEN could be risking a heart attack or other side-effects by purchasing counterfeit erectile dysfunction drugs from the Internet, urologists warn. Dr David Malouf, president of the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, said recent research showed hugely variable ingredients in fake versions of Viagra and Cialis offered for sale online. A South Korean study presented at this month’s American Urological Association annual scientific meeting investigated 19 different counterfeit tablets, finding only one contained the correct prescription dose of active ingredient, phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. More than half (58%) of the fake drugs had ...
