Caution on carotenoids in breast cancer
CAROTENOID supplements have been linked to an increased risk of mortality in women being treated for breast cancer. In the first study suggesting possible harm from a specific antioxidant used by breast cancer patients, US researchers found a twofold increased risk of breast cancer mortality with frequent use of combination carotenoids compared to no use. Researchers followed 2200 women, of whom 81% were taking at least one type of antioxidant supplement, for two years after their cancer diagnosis.
